HoHoHo Hero app review: a cute and addictive Christmas game

Introduction

If you've got the post-Christmas blues, then HoHoHo Hero - Santa’s Candy Cane is a game that will bring the color and cheer of Christmas right back to your iPhone or iPad.

What we have here is a game where Santa himself calls on you to help him get to his destination using bridges made of candy cane!

Game Center Integration

HoHoHo Hero - Santa’s Candy Cane features a really sweet festive tune, but it is repetitive and can be turned off on the main menu from the top right jingle bell icon.

The main interface has four options: Play, Restore Purchases, Rate, and Remove Ads. Ad removal costs 99 cents, but I didn't find the ads very intrusive, since they appear at the bottom of the screen and can easily be ignored. I did come across a single full-screen, 15-second ad which I wasn't able to close or skip, but only once.

This app also features Game Center integration, so users can compare scores with their friends as well as players around the globe.

Gameplay

Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to help Santa go from rooftop to rooftop using the only method of transport he has available: candy cane bridges.

You must tap anywhere on the screen and hold down your finger to extend the cane as much as necessary. You have to ensure that the cane is just long enough to cover the distance and ensure Santa doesn't fall down, but be careful: Santa will fall if you make the cane too large, crossing over to the other side of the rooftop!

This game sounded incredibly easy to me when I first downloaded it, but I quickly realized that it requires intense focus and a fantastic hand-eye coordination if you want to get past a handful of rooftops!

Each time you successfully pass a rooftop, you will receive a point. When you fall down, the game is over! There are no second chances, but you can start over from the beginning.
