Chinese takeout is one of the most popular fast food options in North America. If you can’t get enough Chow Mein or Chicken Fried Rice, ChineseFoodMap may be the perfect app for you. This app can help you discover great Chinese food right in your own backyard. We all have our favorite takeout choices, but that doesn’t mean it’s a bad idea to try something new on occasion. This is a free app and it’s compatible with iPhone, iPad, and the iPod touch.
We’re all familiar with Foursquare. It’s the social media king of takeout, and if you want to find a great place to eat this may be your best option. There are lots of user reviews and it’s easy to add your own opinion to the conversation, but it’s not the only option for finding a restaurant in the App Store. In fact, if you’re looking for a very specific type of food it may not be the best option. If you love Chinese food, ChineseFoodMap may be the best app available. It’s simple and it works well.
Like most apps in this category it relies on GPS mapping technology to discover places near you. There isn’t anything flashy about this app: it’s simple and it works. You might be surprised by the number of Chinese restaurants in your area that you’ve never heard of. At 3.8 MB you don’t have to worry about it occupying a lot of space on your iOS device so it’s definitely worth downloading.
Using the App
ChineseFoodMap is a simple app. When you run the app for the first time you’ll be able to select either English or Chinese as your default language. Once you’ve made your selection you can start exploring the app. On the main board you have access to five different tabs: restaurants nearby, search restaurants, take photo & share, my top 20 favorites, and about ChineseFoodMap. If you tap on restaurants nearby you’ll be presented with a list of Chinese restaurants in your area. When you tap on a selection you can read any review that have been left by other users, or you can create your own. Each profile also provides a phone number and address of each restaurant.
The feature I really liked in this app was the option to switch to a map view of the nearby restaurants. Each restaurant is represented by a pin on the map. If you tap on the pin you’ll see the name of the restaurant and its address, and if you tap on it again you’ll see the full profile of the restaurant. There are ads at the bottom of each restaurant profile, but they aren’t too obtrusive. You can toggle back and forth between the map view and the list view depending upon your personal preference. You can also share your favorites on Facebook, by text, or by email. That’s really all there is to the app. It’s simple, but it works.
There are banner ads at the bottom of each restaurant's profile page
ChineseFoodMaps is a great little app for finding Chinese restaurants in your area. If you’re a fan of Chinese food you’ll definitely want to download this one. It’s simple, but it serves its purpose well.
