The tale of Snow White is one that has been enjoyed by generation after generation and now you can share it with your kids complete with an interactive twist. The Snow White app can be used on your iPod touch, iPad, and iPhone and details the entire story of the princess. The app has been designed to be versatile for a wide age range so that advanced readers and those just starting to learn to read will be able to use it.
Not only does the Snow White app give kids the opportunity to enjoy the classic tale but it's also a wonderful opportunity for them to expand their vocabulary and work on their reading skills. The tale begins with Snow White's birth and her father has married a new wife after Snow White's mom dies. The new wife is of course very jealous of Snow White and wants to get her out of the picture. The app can be used by kids up to the age of 12 and is available in a variety of languages making it all the more versatile. What's great is that there are translations of each word in the story available in all seven languages.
The app was updated just over a year ago with bug fixes. Although it is free to use you are only given part of the story. To unlock the full story you need to make an in-app purchase of $3.99. The app has four out of five stars from users but no customer comments.
Kids can follow along with the story at their own pace
Enjoying the Story
The Snow White app makes it possible for kids to not only hear the tale but really enjoy it thanks to the animations. Kids can have the story narrated to them and each word is highlighted to give them a learning opportunity. For those more advanced readers they can make use of the guided reading tools that allow them to work at their own pace. Kids of all ages can opt to use the videos to help with reading or turn them off. Some of the words even go so far as to show the syllables, the silent letters, and linking words.
Although the story is of course entertaining the app itself feels lacking. It would be nice to see more interactive features and content and just ways in which to engage with the kids and hold their interest.
