Fashion Studio is an app designed to let your young ones create their own fashion designs and show them off on the runway. If they can create a design that satisfies their clients they can collect their reward and improve their standing in the fashion world. This app was okay, but it didn’t really stand out. It is a free app, although there are in-app purchases which can be quite expensive. The app is compatible with the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.
There are a lot of apps in the dress up, makeover, and fashion design categories so an app needs to have something a little extra to stand out and I didn’t find that Fashion Studio did. It works well and I didn’t run into any glitches; it just didn’t stand out from the pack for me. The details are much the same as any basic fashion design app. Essentially, you’re trying to create fashions that will sell.
I really didn’t like how much of this app required in-app purchases to make any real progress in the game. It seemed like every other item I tapped on required an in-app purchase, and the prices were fairly substantial. Purchases started at $0.99 and went up to $3.99, and that was per item. It doesn’t take long to run up quite a tab! That would be okay if this was a standout app that left you wanting more, but it’s not. On top of that it requires 140 MB of free space on your iOS device.
How to Play
This app isn’t difficult to use, there just isn’t a lot to it. To get started you tap on your mannequin and pick a dress. Once you’ve selected your dress then you can start designing it. This is where you choose your colors, and any designs you want to add such as bubbles or stripes. You can choose more than one pattern to incorporate into your design, and you can also add other little details to the design such as buttons. Once you’re finished with the process you tap on preview to see the finished result and then finish to add it to your portfolio. You’ll then be awarded coins for finishing your design.
Once you’ve created a few dresses you’ll have a portfolio that you can start to sell to clients. If you match the right dress with the right client you’ll be rewarded more coins for your efforts. As you progress through the world of fashion and your client base expands you will be awarded more achievements and you can even share your design with your friends through social media, although I found the app would often hang up when I tried to do this. That’s really all there is to this one. It’s fun to try at first, but once I tried it a couple of times I was left with the thought "is that it?"
Tended to hang up when trying to share over social media
Didn’t stand out from the crowd
There are a lot of apps in the App Store that focus on the budding fashion designer. The developers of Fashion Design World didn’t really do anything to make this one stand out from the crowd. It’s an okay time-waster but nothing more than that.
