2 Tiny Dots app review: test your coordination

Introduction

What I really like about the App Store is the ingenuity of the developers – just when I think they can’t come up with anything new a developer comes along and surprises me. This is a very difficult thing to do in the games category, but the developer of 2 Tiny Dots has achieved it none the less. This is a great little game that will test your coordination and kick your brain into high gear. It’s is a free app and it’s compatible with the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch.

Sharpen your Reflexes

Most games in the app store are pretty predictable. They fall into certain categories such as endless runners or puzzle games, but 2 Tiny Dots does not fit neatly into any category. It is kind of like a puzzle or matching game, but not in the traditional sense. The unique nature of this app makes it one worth taking a second look at. It actually requires you to use both sides of your brain at the same time. I don’t recall too many game apps that require you to use your left hand and your right hand at the same time and to perform essentially the same function with both – 2 Tiny Dots does exactly that.

My biggest criticism of this one is the lack of clear instructions. I actually had to read the description in the iTunes store to figure out how to play it. It’s pretty straightforward actually but it just didn’t jump out at me when I opened the app. It seemed a little strange to me that they would leave out instructions but it was only a minor setback. There are ads in the app as well but they’re generally unobtrusive – located along the bottom of the app while the games being played. On the plus side, there is Game Center integration which is always a good thing.

How it Works

The actual game play really is something a little different – you definitely have to concentrate on this one. There is only one game setting so all you have to do is tap on play to get started. When you do tap that play button you’ll notice two squares that are green on top and red on the bottom.  If you tap next to the squares they will flip around placing the red part on top and the green part on the bottom – sounds pretty simple, but there’s a little more to it.

There are also two balls that are falling towards the left and right squares – the balls may be red or green and there’s no guarantee that the ball on the left will be the same color as the ball on the right.  The objective of the game is to tap on the squares so that the color at the top matches the color of the ball that is falling towards it. The reason it’s so challenging is that you have to do this at exactly the same time with your left and right hands. Believe me – it takes a lot of coordination! You can also share your high score over social media, or compare your high score with others in Game Center.

2 Tiny Dots is definitely a fun little app that will challenge you to think a little differently. This is a game that requires a lot of coordination and concentration. If you’re looking for something that will keep you entertained well into the wee hours of the night then you’ll want to check this one out.
