If you’ve ever wanted to have a good chat with someone with similar interests to you without having to worry about the baggage that comes along with having a conversation with someone you know then Reach Anonymous Chat may be just the chat room app you’re looking for. This app allows you to chat anonymously with people in your local area without ever having to sign in to anything. It works pretty well but it is geared towards a younger crowd so if you’re over forty you’ll probably want to take a pass on this one. This is a free app and it’s compatible with the iPhone, iPad, and the iPod touch.

We are definitely social animals. In fact most of us just love talking to people with similar interests. Reach Anonymous Chat is an app designed to help you scratch your social itch. The chats are completely anonymous and you can talk to people located within a kilometer of you without ever knowing who they are. It’s fun and it takes the pressure out of a conversation.

I did find an issue with this app though; almost everyone I came across was either in their teens or their early twenties. This is fine if you’re in that age group, but it seems that the app is really limited by this. I’m not sure if this is by design or if it’s just the type of app that’s popular amongst those age groups, but it’s definitely something that needs to be worked on if this app is ever to reach its true potential. This app requires 12 MB of free space on your iOS device.

How it Works

When you open the app the first thing you’ll see is a list of short bios of people near you. To start chatting with any one of these people all you have to do is tap on the chat bubble in the bottom right corner of their profile: type a short message and see if they reply. You don’t even have to create your own profile to get started if you don’t want to, although it will be a lot easier to get responses if you do.

It all sounds pretty good, but unfortunately there are just a few too many issues with this one. If you scroll through the available chat connections near you you’ll notice that they repeat themselves over and over again, and they rarely ever update. Even when I left the app alone for a while and came back later I still came up with the same profiles pretty much every time. Creating a profile is pretty straightforward, but it seems like a waste of time if you’re never able to find anyone new to chat with; after all, the whole idea of an anonymous chat app is that it remains anonymous. That’s pretty hard to do if you’re chatting with the same people all the time.

Final Words

The idea of being able to chat with people near you with similar interests is a great idea, unfortunately Reach Anonymous Chat falls a little flat in its attempt to create an app to do just that. Its users seem to be limited to teens and those in their early twenties, which is fine if you fall into one of these categories, but not if you’re a little older than that. Even if you’re in one of these age categories the app never seems to have a lot of new users. This is an app with a lot of potential, but a long way to go before it gets there. Might be better off with one of these random chat apps.
