Pilot John GSE app review: one stop shopping for ground support equipment

Reviews

Introduction

The App Store isn’t just about fun and games. There are a lot of great business applications available as well. Even an industry as complex as the airline industry can benefit from great apps. Pilot John GSE is one such app that is geared towards everything you need for ground support equipment. This equipment is essential for maintaining the smooth operation of an airplane fleet and having the ability to buy and sell equipment with an iOS app is a great idea. This is a free app and it’s compatible with the iPhone, iPad, and the iPod touch.

For the most part the airline traveler has no idea of what goes on in the background to get their flight of the ground safely and landed safely at their destination. The traveler just boards the plane, kicks up his heels, enjoy a the in-flight movie or haves a nap, and eventually arrives at his destination. The airline sees the whole flight process a little differently. Every little detail has to be coordinated right down to the last item to ensure the safety of the crew and passengers onboard. It’s imperative that the ground equipment used to maintain and support the airlines flight schedule is well-maintained and up-to-date. This is where Pilot John GSE comes in. This app allows airlines to purchase new or used ground support equipment as well as providing them a platform to sell their old equipment.

Business apps should be designed to meet the needs of their customers as quickly and easily as possible. There’s a huge catalog here and every category within the app is clearly labeled and easy to follow; the only problem I had with the app was the ordering process. To order any item from the catalog; you have to submit a request for a quote first and it doesn’t matter whether the item is new or used. While this may be understandable for large ticket items, it seems a little unnecessary for simple items such as baggage carts. Why not have a posted price and let me submit my purchase right then and there? An app should make things as convenient as possible and they haven’t done that here. This app will require 7.1 MB of free space on your iOS device.

How it Works

The app is designed like most catalog or sales-focused apps. If you’ve purchased something on Amazon or EBay before then you won’t find this app hard to use at all. There are two sections to the screen on the left you’ll be able to toggle through: My Account, Categories, Aircraft, Sell GSE, and Contact Us, and on the right you’ll see a display of the items that are available for sale. The app works very smoothly and there are a whole lot of items for sale. If you’re looking for any type of ground support equipment you’re bound to find it here.

If you’re serious about purchasing equipment with this app you’ll have to create an account first, but this is a simple process: simply tap on my account, then tap on sign up now, fill in some basic information and you’ll be ready to place an order in a matter of minutes. After you’re signed up you can search for a particular item from the Categories tab, or you can search for an item for a specific type of aircraft by tapping on the Aircraft tab. It’s pretty straightforward.
