Puzzle Chips by Curt Stein is a fun and addictive matching game that’s easy to learn, but not easy to master. If you’re a poker fan, this one may have particular appeal to you as the idea is to match poker chips of equal value on a simple grid. It’s a whole lot of fun that will keep you happily tapping away for hours. The best games you find in the App Store are often the simplest ones – a game doesn’t have to be complicated to be addictive. This is a free app and it’s compatible with the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch.
It sometimes seems like there’s a new matching game being released to the App Store every day. We’re all familiar with the most popular ones like Candy Crush Saga and Bejeweled but, there are many other apps to choose from. It’s always refreshing when you come across something that’s just a little bit different – games like Candy Crush Saga are great but they always offer the same sort of colorful pieces and themes. Puzzle Chips is definitely a unique offering in this category. It doesn’t hurt that it capitalizes on the popularity of poker as well.
Probably the only major drawback with this app is the liberal use of ads throughout. There are banner ads at the bottom of the page and full page popup ads after every second or third game. You can easily close these though so it’s only a minor inconvenience. On the positive side it has full gamecenter integration so you can share all of your best scores with your friends around the world.
Another cool feature is the clinking sound that the chips make when you knock them into each other – they sound just like real Poker chips. It's little details like this that increase a game's appeal. Puzzle Chips also includes a simple tutorial to get you started. This app will require 6.4 MB of available space on your iOS device.
How to Play
The concept of this game is pretty simple – the board features different colored Poker chips with different values. You have to slide the chips across the board to match up the pieces with similar chips. If you make the correct move, you begin to make a dotted circle around the chips – when you’ve matched up enough chips the dotted circle will be completed and you can remove that chip set from the board to clear off space. The challenge is that every time you aren’t able to match chips as you move them across the board, the board begins to fill up. If you don’t clear off enough chips, the board will eventually fill up and it’s game over. It’s a lot more difficult than it sounds.
Puzzle Chips is a fun take on the popular puzzle matching style of game. It features Poker chips as the puzzle pieces you’re attempting to match, and it includes familiar sound effects you’d expect to hear as Poker chips are clinked together. This one is addictive and will keep you occupied for hours.
