Cosmic-Watch app review: a fun cosmic watch and map to the stars

Reviews

Introduction

I have to admit when I came across the Cosmic-Watch app in the App Store I wasn’t sure what to make of it at first, but after an initial examination of this app, I was absolutely mesmerized. This is a unique app unlike any others I’ve come across before and that includes the tons of astronomy apps that offer gateways to the stars.

The best iPhone apps for scientific calculators 2021

This app offers you a quick way to find out what time it is anywhere in the world, but it also allows you to see the current position of the planets and where they are in relation to the Earth – the cosmic viewpoint is simply stunning. This app is available for purchase from the App Store at a cost of $3.99 and it’s compatible with the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

A Cosmic Clock for the Stargazer

Astronomy apps are not uncommon in the App Store, but I don’t know if there are any other apps that combine aspects of stargazing with timekeeping in quite the way this app does. It’s a unique concept and a winning one. Most other astronomy apps you’ll find in the App Store are basic celestial maps of the stars that can be used in conjunction with a telescope – they’re very interesting but not in the same class as Cosmic-Watch.

The best light particle manipulation apps for iPad

The biggest disappointment I had with this app is that there are no real instructions at all – you’re simply left to figure out the app yourself without any direction, frankly it’s a little frustrating. The tools and visual effects in this app are fantastic, which makes it even more mystifying that the developers didn’t feel the need to add any instructions or a help section. As this is a paid app you don’t have to worry about ads or further in-app purchases. This app will require 98.7 MB of available space on your iOS device.

How It Works

When you first open this app, you’re more than likely to be a little taken aback by the stunning visual effects – they really are that good. After a little trial and error, you’ll find that there’s a settings icon in the bottom left corner which you can tap on to access various different celestial views of the earth as well as different clock faces. You will find a help icon within this menu, but this isn’t a contradiction of what we said above. This icon simply posts some labels on the globe interface in front of you, it doesn’t really explain anything.

The cool thing about this app is that you can switch between views of the sky. In one view you can see all the constellations and planets, while in another view the sky is free of the constellations and all you see are the planets and their relative position to the Earth. The best way to explore this app is to simply tap on the different functions and try them out because there is a lot to choose from.

The other main function of this app is as a world clock. By simply pulling on the globe you can spin it to a different area of the world and see what the current time is in a particular city. It’s probably the quickest way you’ll ever find out what the current time is in Korea or Argentina. It’s a lot of fun and adults and kids alike can both enjoy this one.

Final Words

Cosmic-Watch is an absolutely stunning visual app that will give you a new perspective on our place in the cosmos. It also happens to be a great way to find out the current time anywhere in the world. These two different and complementary functions of this app combine to make a winning combination and a must have app.
