You get your own phone number, too! What’s awesome about this app is that it lets you turn your iPod touch or iPad into a phone. Of course, you can also use it on your iPhone.

You get unlimited texts and picture messaging, so you don’t have to worry about staying under a certain number of transmissions a month like you do with your cell phone provider.

This service is totally free, with no required subscriptions or monthly fees. The app is ad-supported, and you can buy a subscription to get rid of them, but you don’t have to if you don’t want. Other optional in-app purchases include ringtone packs, ad-free texting, premium wallpaper, and more.

You can totally customize how the app sounds and looks, with different ringtones, color schemes, and wallpaper. You can even use your own photos as wallpaper if you prefer. You can make your own voicemail greeting and signature.

The latest update made it free to call other TextNow numbers and made all incoming calls free.

TextNow + Voice was updated to Version 4.4.20 on December 7, 2012. This version has 2174 customer ratings with an average of 3.5 out of five stars.

I love how I can make an unlimited number of texts for free, or talk to other TextNow users or incoming callers for free. This will save a lot of money on my cell phone bill.
