This app combines all kinds of note taking techniques and tools - handwriting, recording, typing, organizing, and PDF annotation, so you can have them with you in one convenient place. The idea is that instead of dealing with piles of books and paper that you've made notes on, you'll have everything neatly stored on your iPad.

The app makes use of retina ink so the quality is extremely sharp. Use the zoom window to help you draw details and be sure to keep your palm on the palm rest so it doesn't make marks on your page. You're able to select the paper and pen you want.

The app even allows you to take word-processing that extra mile by offering advanced features such as text boxes, outlining, spell check, bullets, italics, bold, underline, cursor controls, font presets, and plenty more styling tools.

Notability was updated on Dec. 2, 2012 and has 783 customer ratings with an average rating of four and a half out of five stars.

I really liked the audio recording features that automatically linked to the notes I was taking. This meant I could go back and tap a word to hear what had been written. Also this was convenient for recording my own spoken notes like to-do lists, memos, and even practicing if you had a presentation to give.
