SCRABBLE HD for iPad app review

Price: $3.99

SCRABBLE HD for iPad by Electronic Arts is a fun way to connect and play with friends using your iPad.

If you’ve ever played the SCRABBLE board game, you’ll know how to play this electronic version. You can play with just about anyone who has the app; even if they don’t, you can send an invite via Facebook or Origin. Alternatively, you can play against the computer.

You can play in Pass ‘n Play mode if there are a bunch of people in the same room who want to play, using only one iPad. If you play the online version, you can have more than one game going at once, with more than one person.

The game is optimized for the iPad’s Retina screen with its HD graphics.

The app offers Super Chat so you can talk smack with your opponents. You get emoticons! You also get spell check, time stamp, and other cool features.

You can play in either landscape or portrait mode. Zoom in when you need to. You can play out tiles even when it’s not your turn, to figure out your best options for your next play.

This app is ad-free.

SCRABBLE HD for iPad was updated to Version 3.3.0 on April 4, 2013. The update made a number of improvements and changes. The current version has a total of 2580 customer ratings with an average of four out of five stars. The three feedback comments showing on the iTunes description page are far from glowing; in fact, they all say this upgrade is the worst ever!

I love the SCRABBLE game in general and this one is okay. I didn’t get a chance to try out previous versions so I can’t comment on how it rates now compared to before. I like that there are dictionaries in several different languages and that I can shuffle my tiles by shaking my iPad.

For: iPad with iOS 4.3 or later
