TeachMe: Toddler by 24x7digital LLC is a fun and educational kids’ app for your iOS device.
As evidenced by the name, this app is aimed specifically at teaching toddlers. They’ll learn six different subjects, based on their ages. Subjects are ABC phonics, letters, shapes, numbers, and colors and counting.
When your child gets correct answers, he or she will earn stickers or coins. If you have it set to stickers, your child can place the sticker on one of six fun backgrounds to create different scenes. These scenes can then be saved to your Camera Roll to use as wallpaper, or sent via email to friends and family. If you have the rewards set to coins, you can assign rewards of your own choosing based on how many coins your child has earned. For example, five coins earns a new coloring book, while ten earns some new art supplies (or whatever you choose, obviously).
You can choose the topics you want your child to learn, and you can pick specific questions for them to answer. Keep track of your child’s progress and performance history in each subject.
The user interface is extremely straightforward and easy to use, so toddlers can play without any adult assistance. The achievement screen really helps motivate your child to do well.
Features of the app include more than 150 stickers kids can earn; five sticker reward scenes (underwater reef, city, playground, beach, pirate cove, and farm); and a fun teacher (Mimi) who speaks in British English or American English. You can change the number of correct answers required to earn a reward.
Are you a teacher? You can use this app to track up to 40 students!
TeachMe: Toddler was updated to Version 2.3.1 on April 16, 2013. The update made some bug fixes and improvements to user enjoyment, and added some other features. The app has a total of 922 customer ratings with an average of four out of five stars.
I had my daughter play this off and on today, and she really seemed to enjoy it. She’s four, so she’s kind of in between the toddler and kindergarten stages. She liked Mimi and what I saw of the app seemed really well designed. I like the fact that I could set a password so she can’t get in there and change any of the settings, and I really like being able to track her progress. We’ll definitely be checking out the other apps in this series as she gets older.
