Why do bees lose their stinger after stinging something? How did iTunes get its name? What book is generally considered the worst published fiction of all time? Quora answers that age-old question of, well, how to answer age-old questions. A large, public and ever improving collection of questions and answers, Quora provides a source for asking and answering those nagging little curiosities which sit in the back of our minds ignored and forgotten, until now.
With Quora, users post questions, edit questions posted by others so they may be better understood and, of course, provide answers for existing questions. Quora is entirely based on an honor system on the assumptioin people won’t post inappropriate questions or edit questions of others in a malicious manner. This system seems to work as I wasn’t able to find any evidence of abuse.
One thing to bear in mind when reading answers is to pay attention to what qualifies an answerer as a credible source of knowledge on the subject. Many questions show answers from people with degrees in relevant fields or pertinent work experience. However, there is the occasional self-proclaimed expert without official credentials whose answers may or may not be legitimate. For instance, there may be a question regarding Harry Potter and an answerer might be an editor with a known publishing company or a big fan of the series. Responses from both people could be legitimate. More than one answer can be posted for a question and as new answers are generated daily, the most recent and accurate answer is displayed.
Quora is a unique app and insofar as I know no other similar app exists in the market. Quora serves a genuine and useful purpose and is at the very least entertaining. Quora provides a great way to pass the time while obtaining a wealth of random knowledge. While many may not consider idle curiosity something important, it’s nice to know that if there’s something you’ve always wanted to know, someone out there knows the answer and Quora is the right tool to help you find it.
