CyclingNews Tour Tracker - Vuelta 2013 app review: keep up-to-date on all your Spanish Vuelta news

Reviews

Introduction

CyclingNews Tour Tracker - 2013 Vuelta by Tour Tracker LLC is a cycling reporting app that changes every time a new big race is coming. As the Vuelta a España has just started, this app is completely revamped and now simply focusing on this race. The Vuelta is basically the Spanish version of the Tour de France or the Giro d‘Italia. It’s a tour around the country that happens every year and this app now just covers news about this huge event in the world of cycling.

Bringing All the News About the Vuelta

The app, currently revamped to cover all the news about the tour of Spain, holds all the information any cyclist fan needs. There are five different tabs on the bottom of the page, each delivering very specific information. The first tab is the Live tap, which gives you live coverage on the day. You can track the peloton here, watch live commentary during the race and see a map with the route and where the riders are now. The second tab is to look at the standings. As with any big race, these change every day and you can watch all five different categories here. On the third tab you can look at all the different stages, including a 2D view of the landscape so you can see where the hardest climbs are. On the fourth page you have an overview of the different teams and riders, including a search function and a favorites section.

The Fifth Tab and the History of the App

The fifth tab is cleverly named “more.” Here you can find all kinds of different information, sharing functions, a dictionary, rule books, settings, and support options. Even a full-fledged user guide is found here, though I would’ve put that on the first page of the app.

The developer also has a social media feed included in the app which not only follows itself, but also follows all big teams in the tour that have their own Facebook or Twitter account. On the Standings tab, there is an option that I found quite neat: you can tap races in the left-hand corner, and it can load all the information of previous tours that this app covered. It holds all the information it then collected, and is great to look back at.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • All the news you need on the big cycling tours
  • Live coverage and standings
  • In-depth team and rider information

Cons

  • Initial loading takes a bit
  • No general news section

Conclusion

Cycling fans be aware! This is one of the most comprehensive apps that cover cycling on the App Store. Some of the bigger tours have their own official app, overtly sponsored, but very good, but this one covers all major tours in one handy app. It’s designed for both iPhone and iPad, so you have no reason not to download this!
