Reviews

Introduction

There are loads of different options for an iPhone personalized news app in the App Store that allow you to customize the news to your taste, and most of these apps are free.

The downside of these apps, even though they are sometimes fully customizable, is that you will get tons of duplicates and you will have to find the article you are looking for.

Feeddler RSS reader by C. B. Lui could be a solution for those problems. With this personalized news app you will need to subscribe to RSS news feeds yourself, meaning you can pick and choose exactly what news you will receive without getting other outlets shoved in your face.

Setting up the Feeddler RSS Reader

One of my major annoyances with this app came to light instantly as I booted it up. The app makes the presumption you already have an RSS account with one of five different RSS reader sites, namely AOL Reader, BazQux Reader, FeedHQ, InoReader, or The Old Reader.

As I didn’t have an account with any of these, I had to set one up to even get access to the app, which was rather annoying. The good thing about this is that if your device is used by multiple people, you can easily log out and not lose any of your settings.

The app supports multiple profiles, so logging in should be easy. The app makes it really easy to organize all the different feeds you have been subscribed to, and supports offline reading as well as organizing, so you will never get caught without something to read!

Other Features and Buying the Pro App

You can set favorites, like articles, save images, add notes and comments, and even tag articles. You can export articles to Instapaper, and see the full webpages of the original article using an in-app browser. You can even share articles via Facebook and email.

There is a pro version of this app available for $4.99. With the free app already sporting so many important features, the paid app can’t be that much better, right? Wrong! The paid app supports offline caching of images, Twitter and bit.ly functions, tons of offline readers, and custom syncing by time and age.

Conclusion

Feeddler RSS Reader is the best RSS reader in the App Store. It has been featured by Apple on the home page, and there is a good reason why. An app with so many features is not very common, and it seems like the developer keeps evolving the app constantly.

The paid version’s price seems a bit steep, but if you want those extra functions, nothing is holding you back. The app is around 5.5MB in size and is compatible with both iPhone and iPad.
